#2 Phrases, Clauses & Objects

phrase = group of related words that is used as a single part of speech and does not contain a verb and its subject

 

subject   – The person, place, or thing that is doing something

prepositional phrase – Groups of words containing a preposition

indirect object  – Tells to whom or for whom an action is done

direct object  – Receives the action of the verb

verb phrase  –  Main verb and its helper(s)

clause -  A group of words containing a subject & verb which form forms a part of a sentence

The student read a poem.

The student with a red backpack read a poem.

The student with a red backpack read her mother a poem.

The student enters the classroom.

The student by the window saw the car accident.

The student next to Christian gave Kennedy the book.
